New York based Super Model Liya Kebede creates lemlem, a unique playful modern children clothing line with an Africa spirit. Liya originates from Ethiopia where all her designs are handmade from natural cotton and is rooted tradition with a modern touch. Lemlem means “to bloom”, “to flourish” in Amharic.
As another facet of her commitment to African causes, Kebede recently founded The Liya Kebede Foundation, whose mission is to reduce maternal, newborn and child mortality and to improve the health and well being of mothers and children worldwide. Liya’s clothing line is another voice for African causes as well as a beautiful embodiment of its traditions and culture. While lemlem supports an economy, her Foundation supports a cause, and both raise awareness for and are dedicated to mothers and children.
